Burger Buns

Another step in our continuing quest to cease buying anything we can make.  These came out delicious.  A little small, but we modified the dinner and turned our veggie burgers into sliders!

  • 2 tbspn yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 3 tbspn coconut oil, liquid
  • 3 tbspn sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3+ cups flour

In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast in the warm water. Add sugar and let stand for 10 minutes. Add the oil and egg and salt and give it a stir. Add the flour and mix to form a soft dough.

Dump the dough out onto a well floured surface and work for 5 minutes until smooth and pillowy. If the dough is sticky, add flour in very small amounts. Divide the dough into 10-12 equal portions, shaping each into a ball. place them 3-4 inches apart on a baking pan lined with parchment paper dusted with flour. Cover with a cloth and let rise for 20-30 minutes (I waited for mine to at least double in size). Pop ’em into a oven preheated 425 degrees and bake for 8-12 minutes. 10 minutes was perfect for mine. Pull them when they’re golden brown.


These were great with our veggie burgers, and our son split on and slathered it with honey for a treat.
